The mid January edition of Holyrood magazine carried an Associate Feature called "Swimming Against the Tide" by Colin Cardwell. This "article" can only be described as lobbying advertorial by Loch Long Salmon, with the aim of influencing Ministers - Holyrood magazine is frequently quoted within the Scottish Parliament as a source of reliable information and has been cited as influential in MPS's decision-making. In the feature, Loch Long Salmon’s CEO, Stewart Hawthorn, makes several very questionable claims about his semi closed mega fish farm proposals, which claims appear to have been published without full fact checking.
The article appears at a critical time for the Loch Long salmon Appeal, for which the Appeal Reporter is currently considering his recommendations. As his recommendations and Ministers' response may in turn influence consideration of the Loch Linnhe mega-farm proposal, the Long Live Loch Linnhe group thought it vital to write a letter comprehensively rebutting the claims.
The letter (see link here or below) has been sent to all Argyll and Bute and Highland councillors, and to relevant MSP's and organisations. The reception to this great team effort has been very positive: “thorough research” - “very well written - thanks for all the efforts” - “truly excellent letter” - “so grateful for both the time and skills given on behalf of the community".
